What does a metal sculpture artist do when he needs a new challenge? For me, that meant creating a new line of contemporary end tables. I will now take you through my reasoning for this endeavor, the idea process, and then the actual fabrication of a finished end table.
A sofa table is basically a furniture piece that will rest against your sofa or couch. Due to its rather narrow and tall style, it can easily save you space in the living room while at the same time offering you great storage options for various small knick-knacks that can fit on the table. The height of these tables is between 40-50" and the narrow aspect allows them to give a person full access to its whole surface area.
Half-moon tables are perfect for placing against walls, especially in areas people will be moving around in. They take up less room than a rectangular, square or circular table, and are much easier to walk around than those types of table. They also have no protruding sharp points for people to walk into. You usually do not want to put a half moon table in the middle of a room because it will stand out.
Dual purpose tables - Just like the name suggests the table style gives you additional usage. It can for instance be shaped and designed like a truck so you have a table and a trunk function on one piece. You can store books or shiny decorative items within the trunk for a glamorous look. You can also choose to have one with an aquarium presentation in that the base area that stunning marine life design and colors bringing your table to life. It of course does not have actual fish, but you can choose aquatic plants you want included.
My medium of choice has long since been steel. Steel creations are permanent and the options in their design are limitless. After years of creating wall and free-standing sculptures I recently decided to focus my creative efforts on functional sculptures in the form of contemporary end tables.
Because they are curved on the side that extends out into the room, these tables take up less room than square or rectangular tables. They also do not have any sharp points, as square and rectangular tables do. This makes them much safer, especially in a home that has children. The sharp edges of rectangular tables are often at the head level of young children. This makes a table with a half moon shape a good choice for homes with children.
